In Darkness Lies my Heart - Original Poem

In darkness lies my heart

The blood is heavy beating true

I but wish the will to impart

the secrets known only to a few.

My hatred is seeded deep
As a smile comes across my face-
Maybe in a time long ago I would weep
But my expression never loses grace.

My soul is covered in black velvet
Forever drenched in darkness
Perhaps that would earn me merit
As my heart beats against the stillness.

Long ago I was weak
The world made me what I am
I finally found what I seek
Remembering innocence I no longer can.

Thank you for reading!
The story behind this poem is that it was an assignment originally for Introduction for Creative Writing. I have since evolved it a bit. My idea behind this poem was actually for a character I am thinking of writing about. Someone who has turned their back on the world for nothing other than she feels it deserves to burn. I used to write poetry as a child and teenager, but haven't in about 15 years. So this is my first published to the world poem since then! It's crazy to think about honestly.

Thank you for reading and I'll see you lovely readers again soon!

I always look forward to 'coffee's'. Basically a small donation to help fund my creative joys if you so choose.

There's a monthly donation from Patreon where it's $1, $5, or $10 a month.
